Earth Cycles and Fall Lessons
It's Fall, my favorite time of the year; the way the late summer sun slants through cooling air, the slower pace the longer nights. The cycle of the year turns and shifts and I am reminded every day how all things end and begin and end and begin again.
Never Fear the End of Things
Bend down your head, old woman
let the weeds speak to you
bow down your ear
the seeds will speak
If you will listen, old woman
If you will listen
Of shedding flowers
from drying stalk
the fall from grace
of withering cold and terrifying darkness
then
finally
the turning
you cannot imagine how beautiful
the turning is
Old woman
never fear the end of things
they are only
ever
the best
of beginnings
